District Receives 33 Awards, Including 2 Best of Category Medals

Despite the unpredictable circumstances brought about by the pandemic last school year, BISD earned a total of 33 state awards for publications and media communications produced during the 2019-2020 school year.

The district received 15 gold, 14 silver and two bronze awards, as well as two Best of Category for a social media campaign (Massey Challenge) and marketing video (Grants for Great Ideas Cash Caravan). These awards were announced during the Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) Star Awards ceremony held Wednesday evening in Denton, Texas.

“This last year has been a challenging year and I am so proud of how our team came together to promote the incredible things that happen daily in our district, and also effectively communicate the important information required during this trying time,” said Superintendent Danny Massey.

Each year TSPRA recognizes communicators in school districts, education foundations, education associations and organizations for their work in print and electronic media categories. Impartial, independent judges evaluated each submission and determined the award recipients based on criteria set by TSPRA. There are 51 main categories covering various media such as newsletters, programs, posters, reports, writing, image/identity packages, photography, graphics, video, electronic presentations, mobile apps, campaigns, events and web sites. Independent judges evaluate and score each entry based on its own merit. Bronze, Silver and Gold Stars are awarded based on set criteria. Finally, the judges review their highest scoring Gold Star winners and select a Best of Category for each division in each of the 51 categories. School districts from across the state are judged among three separate district categories according to the total number of students: less than 10,000 students, 10,000 to 30,000 students and more than 30,000 students. Brazosport ISD has approximately 12,000 students, so it is judged within the 10,000 to 30,000 student category, which is among much larger districts like Pearland, Alvin, Beaumont, Allen and Lubbock. Here is a list of the awards Brazosport ISD received this year.
