Brazosport ISD is excited to announce a new partnership with INSPIRE TEXAS|Educator Certification by Region 4 to establish and implement a year-long, high quality teaching residency model for Alternative Certification candidates. The work is undertaken to achieve the goals of a grant that Prepared To Teach has received from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support innovative staffing models to fund teacher residencies across the country.
BISD was selected as a partner because of the innovative methods and programming currently in place for clinical teachers in Brazosport ISD. In 2020-2021, BISD launched its Paid Clinical Teaching Initiative to employ and assist instructional interns receiving their practicum experiences in classroom instruction.
The purpose and goals of this new partnership with INSPIRE TEXAS is to further leverage a network of national resources to support local efforts to grow sustainable, affordable, high-quality teacher residencies that strengthen novice teachers and support schools and districts. This alliance will also help to develop strong partnerships between teacher preparation programs and districts to support innovative staffing models to fund teacher residencies. This partnership will be the first in the state of Texas to focus on the year-long residency program for future teachers enrolled in alternative certification programs.
BISD continues to set the standard for the region, state and nation by providing funding for clinical internships which allows clinical teachers to focus on their students and their own professional growth without other distractions. The goal of Brazosport ISD is to recruit, develop and retain highly effective staff. Kristi Kirchsner, Chief Human Resource Officer states that "through this partnership initiative, we will be able to provide a solid foundation in which our clinical teachers can build a successful career in education! While we will host a paid clinical teacher for a year, it is our desire to grow an educator that will positively impact students for years to come."
