This is the image for the news article titled Child Nutrition Named as a Top Program in the StateBrazosport ISD Child Nutrition was recognized this morning live on facebook for being named by the Kroger School Food Rankings as one of the top child nutrition programs in the state. Kroger School Food Rankings evaluates how districts across the state provide meals to low-income area school children by focusing on meal participation rates and after-school meal programs offered in each district. Brazosport ISD ranked 3rd in the region and 14th in the state in the Kroger Rankings. Our district also has nearly 100 percent of eligible students participating in our school lunch program.

In the press conference, Rachel explained how one of the biggest challenges this year was the current supply chain shortages, which not only included food shortages, but also utensils, plates, etc. “Our staff really embraced the challenge and instead of complaining, they had fun with it. On the days when we didn’t have a plate to put food on, they put it in a bag but then they marketed it ‘guess what!? You get to have a picnic lunch today!’”

The live event was hosted by CHILDREN AT RISK, a non-partisan research advocacy nonprofit dedicated to understanding and addressing the root causes of child poverty and inequality. They asked BISD Child Nutrition Director Rachel Author to speak on the topic of ensuring all kids’ basic needs are met. You can view the recording at https://fb.watch/clnwkrmsCh/
