In the spring, Riley will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for about 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million.

The NMSC competition began with about 1.5 million students from over 22,000 high schools across the nation. As a finalist, Riley ranks in the top 0.5% of students across the country.

Riley is the son of Kara Weber and Roger Kuhlman. He is active in multiple areas on the Brazoswood campus and community. Riley has been involved with UIL Computer Science, Athletics and Rocketry. He is currently the  Dynamics Lead Engineer for the Goddard level Rocketry Program. Riley runs both cross country and track, is a member of the soccer team while also being an accomplished swimmer. He serves as an officer in the Spanish Honor Society, is a member of the National Honor Society  and received Merit Awards in Chemistry, Human Geography, English I, English II, Biology, PreCalculus and Computer Science Essentials.

Riley is also highly involved outside of campus by volunteering at the Clute Public Library, tutoring math and teaching kindergartners at Safety Town. He enjoys recreational computer programming by creating computer games, websites, simulations and 3D modeling. After High School, he plans to Major in Computer Science for a future as a Computational Engineer.

“This outstanding accomplishment speaks to the quality of education our students receive every day in our schools,” said Superintendent Danny Massey.

The PSAT will be offered to all current Brazoswood Juniors on October 13, 2021 which will enter our current students for the 2023 National Merit competition.
