During School Board Recognition Month, we would like to take a moment to recognize and thank trustees for their tireless dedication to students and staff.

“Each of our board members are true servant leaders who spend countless volunteer hours to ensure our district stays focused on our mission of setting the standard for educational excellence,” said Superintendent Danny Massey.

This year’s School Board Recognition Month theme is Rising Above, which is definitely what each of our board members has done consistently. From the Harvey flood, to the February 2021 freeze, to the continued challenges of a global pandemic, our trustees have focused on meeting the needs of students and staff while balancing competing priorities. The Board has approved and overseen two successful Bond Programs without an increase in the local tax rate. The 2014 and 2019 Bonds have funded numerous improvements and security enhancements at all 19 of our campuses along with the completion of five new elementary replacement schools and a new replacement high school scheduled to open in the fall. The Board has also supported the addition of many college and career courses, tools and facilities to ensure our students are equipped beyond graduation. Receiving the highest financial rating under the Texas School Financial Integrity Rating System, the Board of Trustees provide strong financial governance to Brazosport ISD. They are committed to being good stewards of tax dollars and have provided over a seven-cent reduction to the tax rate over the last three years.

We are very appreciative of our board members' ongoing investment in the employees and future Brazosport ISD educators. This investment is displayed through their support in a variety of initiatives that continuously grow teachers through different pathways.  The BISD Grow Our Own program allows current paraprofessionals the opportunity to become a certified teacher through completion of degree or an alternative teaching certification. In January 2021, the board supported the creation and launch of the paid clinical teaching program, which has led to greater student teacher numbers as well as expanded university partnerships. Most recently, the board approved an innovative district partnership with INSPIRE Texas to support a high quality, year-long residency program for alternative candidates that will begin in the fall 2022 semester! Also, with the approval of a retention stipend in December 2021, the board continues to recognize the extra effort required of our current educators during the unique circumstances experienced the past couple of years.

Serving as a link between the community and classroom, BISD Trustees are elected for three-year terms by the community in which they reside. They are responsible for 19 campuses with more than 2,000 staff members serving over 11,400 students.

It is with immense gratitude that we spotlight our current Board of Trustees members:
