This school year, Brazosport ISD had more than 70 high school students qualify as BISD Scholars. Of these, more than half earned 18 or more dual credit hours prior to the start of the school year; two earned an AP Capstone certificate or Diploma; three earned National Merit Commendations; and one has been recognized as a National Merit Semifinalist.
To be named as a BISD Scholar students must achieve one or more of the following criteria:
- Successful completion of 18 or more college credit hours prior to the start of this school year.
- Designated by the College Board as an AP Scholar, AP Scholar with Honor, with Distinction or as a National AP Scholar.
- AP Scholar is granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams.
- AP Scholar with Honor is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.
- AP Scholar with Distinction is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.
- National AP Scholar is granted to students in the United States who receive an average score of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.
- Earned an AP Capstone Certificate or AP Capstone Diploma
- The AP Capstone Diploma is granted to students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research and on 4 additional AP Exams of their choosing.
- The AP Capstone Certificate is granted to students who earn scores of 3 or higher in both AP Seminar and AP Research.
- Designated by the Nation Merit Scholarship Corporation as a student receiving a letter of commendation or identification as a semifinalist or finalist for the National Merit Scholar program.
Along with this recognition, students are also invited to a banquet in their honor. They receive a BISD Scholar pin and a sign for the yard or window to share their accomplishments with others.
“This accomplishment is intended to recognize the tremendous and steadfast efforts these students have placed into their academic pursuits while a student in Brazosport ISD,” Assistant Superintendent Brian Cole shared.
