The Spelling Bee was sponsored by Houston Community College and Scripps National Spelling Bee and included schools from around Brazoria County. This year eight public schools from BISD, two public schools from Pearland, Our Lady Queen of Peace and Silverline Montessori of Pearland competed for the opportunity to advance to the Houston Public Media Spelling Bee in March.

Rey Ramos, a Grady Rasco 5th grader, and Aidan Parker, LJI 7th grader, tied for 3rd place in the County Bee. Both impressively competed in 11 rounds before elimination. According to Kelli Montgomery, event coordinator, the final four competitors went deep into the list of words making it into some of the most challenging of any competition to date.

Mrs. Montgomery said of these 2 BISD students, "I'm incredibly proud of all Brazosport ISD students who competed in this year's Brazoria County Regional Qualifying Spelling Bee. We had outstanding competitors from across our district, and the final rounds were some of the toughest and most intense I’ve seen in years. A huge congratulations to Rey Ramos and Aidan Parker for battling it out until the very end—their dedication and perseverance were truly inspiring!"

A special thank you to the Pronouncer Darren Tidwell, Orchestra teacher at LJI and Rasco; Judges, Cheryl Wood, retired LJI Librarian, Yvonne Mintz, The Facts, and Becky Rinehart, retired BISD Educator; and Coordinators, Kelli Montgomery, Beutel 4th Grade Teacher and Bronwyn Rumsey, LJI Librarian.
