The announcement came as a surprise to Jess during a recent Jostens Renaissance leadership conference, where she was celebrated in front of a room full of student leaders. The school’s drumline, Belles, and cheerleaders led the high-energy reveal.

As the celebration unfolded, BISD Superintendent Danny Massey addressed the crowd of students and staff, emphasizing the significance of the award. “The quality of education is in direct proportion to the quality of teachers,” he told students. “Classroom teachers like Ms. Jess are the ones primarily responsible for the experiences you have and the education you receive. We have had region, state, and national honorees—but never before a global educator! This honor is well deserved, and we are proud to see her recognized on a global stage.”

Jess teaches English IV and serves as Student Council and PALS advisor, in addition to leading Brazoswood’s nationally recognized Renaissance efforts.

Mike Wolf, Jostens Vice President of School Culture and Events, praised Jess for the positive impact she has made at Brazoswood. “This award is designed to recognize the passion and dedication of educators who are a driving force in impacting students’ academic performance and character,” said Wolf. “Stephanie has certainly demonstrated that at Brazoswood, and we are honored to celebrate her accomplishments.”

Jess’s efforts have led to tangible results. Former Brazoswood Principal Rita Pintavalle, who nominated her for the award, noted that overall attendance has increased and student morale has improved since Jess began implementing short-term attendance incentives and innovative student engagement strategies. Her work has directly improved student morale and increased attendance through creative engagement strategies and short-term attendance incentives. “Stephanie’s commitment to building a supportive and inclusive school environment is evident through her initiatives and programs,” said Pintavalle. “She has spearheaded numerous activities that promote student engagement, respect, and collaboration.”

Brazoswood Principal Dr. Jarrett Johnson added, “Mrs. Jess is a true catalyst for connection on our campus. Her passion for students and her creativity in bringing people together have created a ripple effect of positivity throughout Brazoswood. She exemplifies what it means to lead with both purpose and heart.”

Student leaders say Jess’s impact is felt well beyond the classroom. “She has been a constant source of guidance, encouragement, and inspiration,” said Brazoswood student Tate Currier. “Through her mentorship, I’ve learned the importance of empathy, collaboration, and integrity. She taught me how to listen actively, communicate effectively, and lead with integrity…While her impact on me is great, the one she’s made on our campus through Jostens Renaissance has been even greater.”

Jess will be formally recognized at the 32nd annual Jostens Renaissance Global Conference, set for June 28–30, 2025, in Chula Vista, California.

Brazosport ISD congratulates Stephanie Jess on this remarkable achievement and celebrates the influence she continues to have on students, staff, and the entire Buccaneer community.
