Cardenas has been named a Finalist in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. This prestigious recognition places Manuel among the top high school scholars in the nation, a distinction earned by fewer than 1% of graduating seniors.

Manuel first qualified as a National Merit Semifinalist based on his outstanding performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Advancing to Finalist status required an outstanding academic record, a detailed scholarship application, a high SAT or ACT score, and an endorsement from school leadership.

As a Finalist, Manuel is now in the running for one of the highly competitive National Merit Scholarships awarded by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, corporate sponsors, and colleges and universities across the country.

Brazoswood High School Principal Dr. Jarrett Johnson expressed his pride in Manuel’s achievement, stating, “Reaching National Merit Finalist status is an incredible accomplishment that reflects Manuel’s dedication, intelligence, and perseverance.
