This fall the opportunity to take the PSAT was expanded to include students at the eighth-grade and tenth-grade levels.

The PSAT is a standardized test administered by the College Board and co-sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

According to Brian Cole, BISD Executive Director of Secondary Academics, “Providing our students additional exposure to a rigorous college-prep exam in eighth and tenth grade will increase our students' familiarity and performance down the road on the junior level PSAT where students can qualify for scholarships as well as on college entrance exams such as the SAT.”

Whether a student is pursuing a college degree or studying for a skilled trade license, the PSAT exam helps provide a point of reference for where a student stands currently in reading, writing and math. This can help them better prepare for the SAT college readiness exam.

Brazosport ISD is also providing all junior students the opportunity to take the SAT during the school day free of charge on March 6, 2019. Students will be able to sign up at their home campuses later this year. Brazosport and Brazoswood High School will be sharing information about practice sessions each campus will host prior to the SAT exam.
