This is the image for the news article titled Pre-K to 8th Graders: Time to Register for the Science Fair! The Brazoria County Science Fair will be held February 14-16, 2019. We encourage Brazoria County students (public, private, and homeschool) in PreK - 8th grade to participate in this year's event. Science fair projects have a great deal of benefits. Most projects involve a good deal of math, and all students get an opportunity to enhance their presentation skills when they prepare their display boards. Seventh and eighth grade students practice public speaking when they discuss their projects with the judges. Preparing a science fair project is an excellent example of what education experts call active learning or inquiry. When brought to completion, the project is an amalgamation of reading, writing, spelling, grammar, math, statistics, ethics, logic, critical thinking, computer science, graphic arts, scientific methodology, self-learning of one or more technical or specialty fields, and for some, public speaking and defense in front of expert judges.

Students may work as an individual on a science fair project or with a team of 2 or 3 students. Students in PreK - 3rd grade can submit an observation or investigation project or a project that explains a system with a model. Grade levels PreK - 6th grade can participate with an experimental project. Experimental projects must have variables that the student is testing. Experimental projects are submitted in one of three categories: physical science, earth science, or life sciences. Individual projects in 7th and 8th grade will select from the following categories: Botany; Behavioral/Social Sciences; Biochemistry/Microbiology; Chemistry; Computers; Earth/Space Sciences; Engineering; Environmental Science; Mathematics; Medicine/Health; Physics; or Zoology. Team Science Projects in 7th and 8th grade will choose from the following categories: Behavioral/Biochemistry/Medicine & Health; Botany/Environmental/Zoology; Engineering/Computers/Mathematics; Earth/Space Sciences, or Physical Sciences.
