This is the image for the news article titled DOW Helps BISD ServeWhile schools have been closed in order to help curb the spread of coronavirus, BISD’s Child Nutrition Department has continued their commitment to provide quality meals to our students in a safe and caring environment.   Our dedicated staff have served over 12,000 meals to students this week from school parking lots and from school buses parked around the community. Think about it- all those meals, all that packing and all the safety protocols that must be followed. Our Child Nutrition staff has worked tirelessly to meet all program requirements, overcome logistical challenges and consider it a privilege to serve the students in our community during these unprecedented times.

This week, one of BISD’s longtime partners, the Dow Chemical Company Texas Operations has stepped up to help serve our students.  Dow reached out to see how they could assist the district to ensure students can continue to receive these vital services. Gabriella Cone, Dow Public Affairs, and Brittany Rosenbohm, Executive Director of the BISD Education Foundation,  have worked together to provide assistance in food packaging for the district’s Child Nutrition Department. Through Dow’s generous donation of $2500, BISD’s Child Nutrition will be able to purchase three pieces of specialized machinery that will assist staff in packing lunches and dinners for our students.

“Dow values our partnership with BISD and commends them for the work they are doing to provide curbside meal service for students during this trying situation. We hope this small token of our appreciation will enhance their ability to provide nutritious meals safely and efficiently,” stated Gabriella Cone, Dow Public Affairs.

The new  equipment will enable BISD’s food service team to pack and seal thousands of meals at a much greater rate, while lessening the amount of actual contact time for the staff.

“We are so thankful for our continued partnership with Dow. They are always here giving back to our schools, supporting our students and staff,” said BISD Child Nutrition Director Rachel Arthur.
