Brazosport ISD Parents,

There are still many uncertainties about what the opening of schools may look like in August. At this time, we do not know if we will be allowed to return with 100% face to face instruction with no social distancing requirements.

If we are allowed to open up with social distancing requirements, we will have a plan for alternate schedules for students. We will receive input and feedback from staff and parents regarding various options for alternate schedules. These changes could be where we would have certain students attend school half-days, every other day, or every other week. We know any type of alternate schedules are not ideal and not what any of us want, but we will be prepared. We also know the importance of communicating with you, so you can make plans for your student, accordingly.

We are also planning to continue to serve students through possible disruptions of school. These could include schools closing intermittently due to COVID19, students and staff having to quarantine at home for a period of time, and/or students on alternate schedules due to social distancing requirements.

We expect the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to provide flexibility in attendance accounting for parents who prefer to have their student learn from home 100% of the time, or their student has a health condition preventing them from attending face to face school. We plan to be able to offer online school. The TEA has communicated that guidelines for 100% remote learning will be available by next Tuesday, 06/23. After gathering feedback from our staff and parents regarding the quick pivot to remote learning last spring, we know what worked well and what we can do differently to make it better. Another survey will be sent out next week to gather feedback from parents regarding next school year, remote learning options, and possible alternate schedule preferences.

We understand that many of these uncertainties regarding the upcoming school year may create difficulties and anxiety. Please know that we do not have local control of how we can open schools. We are dependent on Governor Abbott, TEA Commissioner, and the University Interscholastic League for guidelines on what classrooms, lunch, transportation, and extra curricular activities can look like. At this time, we do not know.  We will communicate with you as soon as orders are released.

Thank you for allowing us to serve your students. Our staff is committed to ensuring that each of our students learn at high levels no matter what school may look like.

Letter from Superintendent Massey ~ June 18, 2020
