The Region 4 Education Service Center serves a seven-county area composed of 48 public school districts and 39 open-enrollment charter schools, representing more than 1.2 million students, 99,000 educators, and 1,500 campuses. 

Candidates of this prestigious award are chosen for their strong leadership skills, dedication to improving educational quality, ability to build effective employee relations, student performance, and commitment to public involvement in education. Superintendent Massey says, “This is a recognition honoring the outstanding work our entire BISD team has done over the last few years to ensure we are meeting the hopes and dreams of each of our students.”

Danny Massey has been in public education for 31 years, 29 as an educator within the Brazosport Independent School District. He is known for his transparency, visibility, and positivity throughout the district and beyond. He also loves supporting students. He attends many student events and enjoys honoring, celebrating, and supporting student achievement.
 
Massey was named the 2019 Man of the Year by the Brazosport Area Chamber. He has also been recognized by various professional organizations and civic groups for his leadership qualities and passion to instill values and character into our youth. The Positive Coaching Alliance named him a National Leadership Fellow in 2015 for his contributions to creating a positive, character-building environment in the district's athletic programs. In 2016, the Brazosport LULAC Council selected Danny as their Educator of the Year for "demonstrating the values and characteristics of leadership to improve the economic and educational opportunities for the Hispanic community." Most recently, Danny was one of only 25 Superintendents from across the nation honored to participate in the elite Thompson Executive Leadership Institute in Austin and Columbia University in New York City. He has served on the Board of Directors for Vanessa’s Big Heart Foundation, a non-profit that raises money and awareness for pediatric congenital heart disease. He served on the Greater Houston Area Fellowship of Christian Athletes Advisory Board. He currently serves on the Brazosport Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and is a member of the Brazosport Rotary. Danny and his family are parishioners at St. Michaels in Lake Jackson. 

Danny Massey earned his bachelor's degree in education from Missouri Southern State College, holds a master’s in education from Texas Southern University and a superintendent certification from St. Thomas University in Houston.
 
Danny's wife Debbie is a Brazosport ISD graduate, and they have three students of their own who are also BISD graduates or future graduates.
