Above are the current timelines for high school athletics and bands as presented by The University Interscholastic League (UIL) Board of directors on Tuesday, July 21, 2020.  The UIL stated in their release that all “schools should be prepared for the possibility of interruptions in contest schedules.” Local and area district UIL committees will be working on plans to accommodate, as best they can, any possible interruptions in practice and play during the upcoming school year. District Executive Committees will be working and planning to accommodate, as best possible for these interruptions. All plans should attempt to address school closures and other issues brought about by the possible spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The COVID-19 risk mitigation guidelines for the 2020-2021 school year can be found at: https://www.uiltexas.org/policy/covid-19/2020-2021-uil-covid-19-risk-mitigation-guidelines

These guidelines provide specific information on face coverings, general operations and protocol for individuals confirmed or exposed to COVID-19, large settings such as band halls, locker rooms, and indoor performance spaces, practice and rehearsal activities, spectators and media, and concession stands and food service.

These guidelines are in addition to the directions issued by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and are to be implemented along with TEA guidance, which applies to UIL academic activities and extracurricular non-UIL activities. Please know that there may be changes, big and small, that may modify these guidelines.

The UIL also stated that schools may schedule junior high football and volleyball anytime during the fall semester within the game limits listed in the UIL Constitution and Contest Rules. All other practice regulations and limitations remain in effect.

“This will be a challenging year for BISD student athletes and fine arts participants, but together, we will continue to provide every student with a quality education through outstanding learning experiences, stated BISD Athletic Director Alan Weddell.
