The Brazoswood P.M. Jazz Band has been selected as the Invited Jazz Ensemble to be featured at the Texas Music Educators Association Clinic and Convention. The Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) in conjunction with the Texas Jazz Educators Association (TJEA) selects one high school jazz ensemble to be featured, each year, through a blind audition process. This is the first time Brazoswood has been selected for this honor.
D.J. Eisenhart, Director of the P.M. Jazz Band said of this recognition, “I am both honored and humbled to have the opportunity to make music with such high achieving young jazz musicians. The Brazoswood jazz program has had a decorated history for over 40 years, and this recognition comes as a culmination of many years of dedicated, hard working students and educators. Jazz is alive and well in southern Brazoria County!”
To qualify for this honor, recordings of performances from the past 2 years were submitted, demonstrating the talent and versatility of Brazoswood’s jazz musicians.
“This is an incredible honor for our jazz musicians, as well as our entire band program.” Brazoswood band director, Martin Montoya said. “Mr. Eisenhart has done an amazing job with our students, helping to continue a very long tradition of excellence. We’re very excited to showcase our students and show the state of Texas what makes Brazoswood so special.”
The Texas Music Educators Association is comprised of over 13,000 music educators in five divisions: Band, Orchestra, Vocal, Elementary, and College. The convention is the largest and most prestigious of its kind, held annually, with over 30,000 educators, students, exhibitors and performers in attendance. This year’s TMEA Convention will be held virtually, in February. The P.M. Jazz Band will record a concert to be broadcast to the entire convention.
