BISD Recognized as a Model Professional Learning Community at Work® District
Only 27 school districts throughout the world have earned this prestigious title.

Brazosport ISD is one of only 27 districts across the globe to be recognized as a Model Professional Learning Community (PLC) at Work® District for their sustained success in raising student achievement across all grade levels. The district’s successful implementation of the PLC at Work® process was a major contributing factor in the improved achievement of its students.

PLCs are schools and districts in which educators recognize the key to improved learning for students is on-going, job-embedded learning for the adults who serve those students. The three big ideas of a PLC call upon educators to:

  1. Focus on learning

  2. Build a collaborative culture

  3. Create a results orientation

Responding to news of the recognition, Superintendent Danny Massey said, “We are honored to receive this award as it shows more evidence of the quality education our dedicated staff provides for our students.”

BISD earned the distinction based on strict criteria, including demonstration of a commitment to PLC concepts, implementation of these concepts for at least three years, and clear evidence of improved student learning over that period. Once measurable results can be seen, the school must explain its practices, structures, and culture and submit its application for consideration by a PLC Review Committee.

Awards and recognitions that BISD earned that contributed to the district receiving this honor includes:

  • BISD Receiving 31 State Distinctions (gaining 15 over previous year)

  • Four schools named International Model PLC Schools - 2020 PLC at Work (Polk, Lanier, FIS, FES) *Polk - 2017-2020, * Lanier and FIS - 2018-2020

  • BISD was a finalist for the Holdsworth Center’s Leadership Program (HEB)

  • BISD Board of Trustees named one of only five finalists for HEB’s 2018 Excellence in Education School Board/Leadership Award

  • Four schools named as 2020 Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase Schools (3 in 2019, 4 in 2018)

  • In 2020 Six BISD schools designated as No Place for Hate Campuses in 2019 and 2020

  • BISD named as Best Communities for Music Education Award in both 2019 and 2020

  • BISD earned 30+ State Awards for Publications and Media in 2019 and 2020

  • Superintendent Danny Massey - Region IV Superintendent of the Year 2020

  • District received a Million Dollar Endowment from MEGlobal for Dual Credit

  • Spatial Temporal Math Acknowledgement

  • Special Education Achievement Award with CITES (Center on Inclusive Technology & Education Systems)

According to the Champions of PLC at Work®, educators in BISD have shown “a sustained commitment to helping all of their students achieve at high levels. They have been willing to alter the structure and culture of the organization to reflect their commitment. We applaud them and congratulate them for achieving this very significant milestone on the never-ending PLC journey.”
