The Brazoswood Lady Buc Powerlifting Team had a fantastic day at the 6A Division 1 Region IV Powerlifting Meet at Alvin High School. The five powerlifters combined effort to bring back a 3rd place team finish and advance three to the 6A state meet.
Brazoswood took about half the number of girls compared to other teams in the region and still combined for a total score that earned them 3rd place on the medal stand. As Coach Jones said, “It really speaks highly of our girls and how they went out and competed to put up those kinds of numbers against schools who brought a lot more lifters.”
Junior Haley Zuniga set the regional record last year in the squat category and exceeded that record this year by another 60 pounds to keep her name in the record book.
Along with Haley Zuniga, juniors Celeste Salinas and Chrystal Lease will represent Brazoswood and BISD at the 6A Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association State Meet on March 18th in Corpus Christi, Texas.
