Brazosport Junior BJ Moore showed his physical and mental toughness during the powerlifting competition held March 27 in Abilene, Texas. He came home with a 5th place medal to show for his hard work.

As is the case at most top level competitions when the pressure is on the best athletes tie or set personal records; and Moore did just that in all three categories (squat, bench press and deadlift).

Moore along with the BPHS Powerlifting team, put in hard work and trained for weeks. But when speaking of Moore Coach Heidt said, “He is the last one to leave every day.”

BJ placed 2nd in his super heavy weightlifters class at the Class 4A Division II Region IV Powerlifting Meet held in Lumberton on March 12, 2021 to qualify for the state meet.

“I am extremely proud of his determination and commitment to competing,” Coach TJ Heidt said.

Powerlifting competitions consist of completing three attempts in all three categories. On any attempt, if competitors cannot successfully lift two out of three lifts they are out of the competition, or disqualified if they drop the bar by releasing it. To excel in the sport it requires strength, but more than that, it requires discipline, confidence, determination and a lot of technique and strategy.

Congratulations BJ and Coach Heidt on this outstanding accomplishment!
