Brazosport High School Hosts Special Olympics Unified Track Meet

For the meet, Special Olympics athletes formed a team with General Education counterparts to participate in unified events. Each partnership competed in a variety of track and field events and had combined scores to count in the results.

Brazosport High School earned the Unified Champions School designation from Special Olympics Texas in 2019-2020 for inclusive practices. This track meet represented the next major step forward in providing inclusive experiences and events for all students.

All of the students and coaches involved were thrilled with the experience and are excitedly planning for events including other area schools in the future. Participants in the event earned a trip to the Regional Special Olympics Track Meet on April 16 in Prairie View, Texas.

“Today was the most fulfilling day I’ve had as an AP,” Assistant Principal Randi Hunter, one of the primary event organizers, stated following the event. “I can’t wait to go with the team to Prairie View next week!”
