Like ice cream trucks that play music traveling down the street, our plan to create a literacy bus for children to gain access to books is nearing completion. Our high school career and technical students embraced this project with the help of the BISD Education Foundation. “The Foundation supports the BISD Read 20 initiative and is excited to contribute to the Book Bus as it will help give all students access to books and literacy programming, not only in the classroom, but at home,” said Brittany Rosenbohm, Executive Director of the Education Foundation. She went on to say that “we recognize the importance of strong literacy skills in the overall educational success of a child and we are honored to be a part of bringing the Book Bus to BISD students.”
The completion of the Book Bus was delayed due to the Coronavirus pandemic that closed school for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year; however, students were excited to resume working on the interior of the bus this year.
You can expect to see the “Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round” Summer of 2021. It will make stops at the community events, campus events, the 2021 Free Read Jamboree and have regular route stops throughout our communities during the summer months.
Brazosport ISD believes in the ability of ALL learners, the instructional capacity of our amazing staff, and the unwavering support of our families and community! We are excited to lead this movement and look forward to developing young readers as future ready leaders.
