Lockheed Martin opened this grant competition up to all high schools across the nation, and only 50 grants were awarded across the United States with Brazoswood High School being one of those selected!

As many have seen through recent media and news stories, Cybersecurity is now a critical industry associated with both protection of our country, and with the economy. Texas has the most cybersecurity growth potential in the nation according to Business Facilities’ 15th Annual Rankings Report in 2019 –and the growth potential continues to expand.  Brazosport ISD students will now have the opportunity to experience extremely well-developed Cybersecurity training that meets the Computer Science Teachers of America K-12 Computer Science Standards, the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Cybersecurity Workforce Framework Standards, and the Standards for Technological and Engineering Literacy. Additionally, teachers will have the ability to integrate industry certifications into the PLTW Cybersecurity course, including but not limited to MTA Security Fundamentals, MTA Cloud Fundamentals, MTA Networking Fundamentals, CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA+), and/or EHA (Ethical Hacking Associate).

As part of the PLTW Computer Science/Cybersecurity pathway, teachers have the opportunity to become part of a small, but growing network of credentialed Cybersecurity teachers in Texas. They attend a summer core training which prepares them to deliver innovative and engaging PLTW Cybersecurity instruction along with connecting them to a strong network of Master Cybersecurity Teachers and their Cohort teachers to provide them support as they complete the roll out this pathway with Cybersecurity capstone course.

CTE Director, Jessie Jennings stated “The need for cybersecurity professionals is not going away anytime soon. Over time hackers create more sophisticated ways to break into networks and systems and we want to prepare our students to become the next generation of cybersecurity engineers ready to tackle this issue head-on, making them workforce ready. We are blessed to already have an amazing partnership with Dow who supports both our PLTW Engineering and Computer Science programs, and it's wonderful to see other companies such as Lockheed Martin also recognizing the need for this program.”

The one time grant will be used to purchase upgraded computers for our new PLTW Computer Science lab at the new Career and Technical Education building at Brazoswood. Congratulations on such an amazing accomplishment! Just another example of how our BISD programs are Setting the Standard and equipping students to be Future Ready.
