Brazoswood Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) had an amazing weekend at the Area 2 HOSA Spring Competition, with three students advancing to the state competition, which will be held April 20-22, 2022 in Galveston, Texas.
Those advancing to the state competition are:
Prisha Dalal and Madison Perez-EMT Team, 1st Place
Erin Dy-Physical Therapy, 3rd place
Several students placed in the top 10 in their event. Kyana Fernandez and Jasmine Chashmawala placed 10th as an EMT Team, and Avery Buentello took 5th place in Human Growth & Development. We are also very proud of our two Brazosport HOSA students, Christine Leal and Janeilis Martinez who placed 7th and 8th in the Medical Assisting category.
All the HOSA students have put in a great deal of practice and dedication over the last few months. Round 1 started in December with an online test. Those that made the top 10 advanced to Round 2 for the hands-on skills part of the competition, held in Pearland. In Round 2 they were handed a patient scenario charged with treating their patient(s) to the best of their ability. The students practiced about seven different event-specific skills before attending Round 2 so that they would be prepared for any situation they were handed on competition day.
