Brazoswood's Pirate Ingenuity Team Placed 2nd in National Solar Car Challenge

The group of students took their solar car to Fort Worth July 13-20 and drove approximately 400 miles, 265 laps around the Texas Motor Speedway track in four days. The team of students placed 2nd in the Classic Division and received an award for displaying the highest level of courage in the face of engineering obstacles.

Gayle Coulter, Brazoswood AST/FFA Advisor said, “This team has shown amazing grit in their work ethic overcoming many huge obstacles to make it to this track. Some of the cars in this challenge have been 4 years in the making, Pirate Ingenuity built theirs in 6 months! And this is the first year for them.”

The Solar Car Challenge was established in 1993 to help motivate students in science and engineering, and to increase alternative energy awareness. The Challenge teaches high school students around the world how to build roadworthy solar cars. This premier high school engineering event allows students to test their engineering talents. But this event doesn’t just challenge engineering knowledge; it also provides students with opportunities to push their limits in teamwork and perseverance.
