The investigation of the threatening email that was communicated earlier this afternoon as still ongoing, has been completed. The Lake Jackson Intermediate School student who received the email was the one who created it, and the student has confessed this to their parents. We appreciate the parent coming forward and notifying us. The student’s action created much fear in our district and community, and this will have serious consequences.

If your student receives a suspicious email or message, please contact the police or BISD administrators. Please know that we will always be diligent to ensure the safety of our students. Again, we ask that you please make sure that your children are aware that there are severe consequences when they choose to threaten the safety of others, even if they do not have any intention of carrying out their threats.

Our investigation has revealed at this time that a Lake Jackson Intermediate School student is responsible for the chain of emails sent over the weekend to several hundred BISD students randomly, one of which included a threat. The student admitted to logging onto other students’ email accounts. As we communicated earlier, our initial investigation led us to believe that some students' email accounts were compromised. This was confirmed as to what actually happened. Please understand that many of the snapshots of emails from a few students being shared on social media were not actually sent by the students who were assigned to the email account. The passwords to the email accounts were discovered by the Lake Jackson Intermediate student.

There was a second threatening email that we have been investigating that came from what appeared to be a google email account outside of the BISD network that was sent to one Lake Jackson Intermediate student Sunday evening. A snapshot of the email was posted on social media and shared out to many students, parents, and community members Sunday night. We sent a notification out to all BISD parents last night because we were not certain at the time who all had received the threat. We have been in contact with the family of the student who received the threat. The investigation regarding who sent this email is ongoing at this time.

We know and understand the fear this creates for students and parents, and we are extremely grateful for your cooperation. Threats to student safety are never taken lightly. BISD takes allegations like these seriously and supports prosecutions to the fullest extent of the law. Please make sure your children are aware that there are severe consequences when they choose to threaten the safety of others, even if they do not have any intention of carrying out their threats.

We are very appreciative of the support received from our local municipalities’ police departments in helping add another layer of protection today at our campuses.
