Brazosport ISD Stakeholders,

While the safety and security of our students will always be a top priority, we also understand the concerns of our parents and community when threats arise, especially to the extent they have in recent days across the state and nation. Although the recent threats here were not credible, we have had numerous communications asking what security measures we have in place in the event they were. We wanted to provide this document to give you easy access to our security protocols and measures on our website, as well as to highlight some of our recent security additions.

To view a list of all of BISD’s safety measures go to BISD Safety Measures. Below is a list of some of the additional security measures that have been implemented in recent months:

  • BISD Police Officers received additional active shooter training.
  • BISD Police have purchased KINETIC BREACHING TOOLS BIS
  • Police Officers received door breaching training.
  • BISD Police Officers and Safety Specialists have been trained on the Byrna Non-Lethal Launcher self-defense system.
  • Additional portable metal detectors (wands) have been distributed to every campus.
  • Purchased tactical vests, helmets & shields for police officers.
  • Random safety checks, including the testing of outside doors conducted by individuals from the district, region, and state levels.
  • All exterior doors throughout the district have been audited to ensure that they comply with BISD’s security measures.
  • Our police officers' coverage expanded to our elementary schools. Each elementary school has an officer on campus every day for a portion of the school day.
  • BISD Safety Specialists have received additional training on how to respond to any threat.
  • Signs have been purchased and will be displayed at each campus warning that armed staff will use whatever force necessary to protect our students and staff.
  • BISD staff members have been trained on how to activate a mass notification system using the district’s ALL CALL phone system.
  • A.I. technology will be placed on campus security cameras to detect a gun.
  • The district is in the final stages of implementing a Mass Notification QUICKLERT System. Once implemented, any staff member will be able to initiate a lockdown from their cellular phone.
  • Three additional Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC), bringing the total to eight. The LPC’s only function is therapy for students.
  • BISD has gone beyond industry standards in its initiatives in cyber security.

We are committed to doing everything possible to ensure that our students feel safe and are able to learn and enjoy this precious time in their lives. We hope this information gives you a little more peace of mind for the safety of your children while they are in our care. Our security team and administrators are always looking for more ways to improve safety and security. We will do everything in our power to continue to keep our children, staff, and community safe.
