Brazosport ISD kicks off Career and Technical Education Month® February 1, 2023. Career and Technical Education Month®  is a public awareness campaign, hosted by ACTE and sponsored by National Association of Home Builders, that takes place each February to celebrate CTE, the accomplishments of CTE programs and the importance of CTE for all students of all ages. Career and technical Education is education that directly prepares students for high-wage, high-skill and high-demand careers.

Brazosport ISD has a robust selection of Career and Technical Education programs that allow students to experience career opportunities. Each student can complete a Program of Study and earn an Industry Based Certification that allows them to graduate high school with the choice to either join the military, workforce industry, or pursue technical or a college degree. With each certification earned students are more valuable to employers.

February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month in recognition of the value of CTE programs in a student’s educational experience and the achievements and accomplishments of CTE programs across the country. Brazosport ISD is proud of our expansive CTE programs that support student future-readiness with courses providing clear direction to pursue high-demand, post-secondary opportunities, whether that be a college education, joining the military, or entering the workforce.

“We are excited to offer our students over 100 career opportunities at BISD. This gives them the chance to identify what CTE courses match the career interests they may have,” said Superintendent Danny Massey. “It is very satisfying to know that students are able to choose courses that match their interest, and what they are passionate about.”

BISD’s CTE programs offer a sequence of courses that align with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills, and range from classroom learning to certification programs to work-based learning opportunities outside the classroom to participation in student leadership organizations. CTE allows students to use academic knowledge and problem-solving skills while acquiring occupationally-specific skills as part of their high school curriculum. BISD high school students can choose from CTE course pathways like welding, construction technology, health sciences, culinary arts, agricultural sciences, audio/video, graphic design, engineering, business, education and training and information technology. The full listing of CTE programs of study, pathways and course offerings is available online in the BISD CTE Exploration Guide.

Students enrolled in our CTE programs can leave high school with:

  • valuable technical dual credit,
  • industry-based certifications and licensures,
  • participation in resume-building student leadership organizations, and
  • the ability to directly enter the workforce.

We are very excited to start construction for the new Brazosport High School CTE Center in March, which will give students more options to enhance their knowledge and skills in a wide range of different courses that will prepare them for numerous career opportunities. Brazosport ISD is proud to provide relevant and inspiring course opportunities through CTE which produce future-ready graduates and the ability for our students to follow their individual hopes and dreams.
