This week marks National School Lunch Week (NSLW), a nationwide celebration of the National School Lunch Program, which plays a vital role in promoting student nutrition. This year’s theme, "School Lunch Pirates: Find Your Treasure!" highlights the importance of providing nutritious meals that support students’ academic success and overall well-being.
Research consistently reveals that school meals contribute significantly to children's overall health. Our program continues to ensure that all students receive healthy options, with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and milk offered daily—completely free this year through the Community Eligibility Program (CEP).
"Our school meals meet federal nutrition standards and are designed to keep students energized and focused," BISD Director of Child Nutrition Amy Anderson shared. "Even though our classes are not in session this week, National School Lunch Week serves as a great reminder of the benefits our meal programs provide to students year-round."
