Brazosport ISD Showcases Advanced Security Practices at Regional ‘Lunch and Learn’
Brazosport ISD recently held a ‘Lunch and Learn’ event to share innovative security practices with regional school districts, local universities, and hospitals. The event focused on the ZeroEyes AI-based gun detection and intelligent situational awareness platform, which enhances safety protocols in educational, commercial and government environments. Over the past several years, the district has implemented numerous security programs, including adopting the ZeroEyes system. This collaboration with a leading technology provider leverages existing security cameras to detect firearms in real time.
“As a district, the well-being of our students and staff is our highest priority,” said Danny Massey, Brazosport ISD Superintendent. “Implementing security technologies like ZeroEyes and sharing these practices with regional partners allows us to take a leadership role in ensuring safer schools and communities. It’s about being proactive and creating environments where students can focus on learning without the fear of external threats.”
If ZeroEyes’ software identifies a brandished gun, images are instantly shared with the ZeroEyes Operations Center (ZOC), the industry's only U.S.-based, fully in-house operation center, which is staffed 24/7/365 by specially trained U.S. military and law enforcement veterans. If these experts determine that a threat is valid, they dispatch alerts and actionable intelligence —including visual description, gun type, and last known location— to law enforcement and local staff as quickly as 3 to 5 seconds from detection.
The ‘Lunch and Learn’ event featured a live demonstration in which an individual carrying a weapon walked around various locations on the BISD campus. At the same time, the audience observed the ZeroEyes software on a large screen. As soon as the individual came into view of any campus security camera, the system triggered an alert, displaying a video of the potential threat and the camera’s location highlighted on a campus map on the same screen. As the armed individual moved to other areas, the screen updated to reflect the most recent view while also marking the locations where potential threats had been detected previously.
“The ZeroEyes system is a game-changer in our efforts to ensure a secure learning environment,” said Ty Morrow, BISD Executive Chief of Safety and Security. “This technology allows us to act quickly and effectively, providing law enforcement with crucial information within seconds. Our goal is to ensure the highest level of security for our students and staff while contributing to a safer educational environment across the region.”
The session highlighted how technology can provide real-time alerts to law enforcement and school officials, enabling much quicker responses to potential threats. By sharing experiences and insights, BISD aims to create a more robust network of safety practices across the region, ensuring a safer environment for all students and staff.
"Brazosport ISD demonstrates unwavering dedication to fostering secure environments for both students and staff," said Mike Lahiff, CEO and co-founder of ZeroEyes. "Together, we believe that students should focus on their education, extracurricular activities, and friendships, rather than living in fear of gun violence in their schools."
Brazosport ISD remains committed to enhancing security measures in schools and appreciates the opportunity to collaborate with local partners to ensure the safety of students and staff on a larger scale.
