The Brazosport ISD Department of Special Services recently hosted a successful Family Connections Resource Night, an evening designed to connect families with local support and services available in our community. With 24 agencies and organizations represented, attendees had the opportunity to learn about a wide range of programs and resources that support students and families.
The event, titled “Community Supports for Every Season,” was held on November 11 at Freeport Intermediate School and was coordinated by BISD Family Liaison Megan Taylor and Mental Health Social Worker Joana Padilla Zapata. Their collaboration highlights BISD’s commitment to helping families access support and resources both inside and outside the classroom.
The purpose of the fair was to connect families with local programs offering assistance in areas such as mental health, housing, education, employment, healthcare, and family resources. The strong turnout showed the community’s shared dedication to supporting one another.
Attendees had the opportunity to meet directly with representatives from agencies such as Brazosport College, Brazoria County Dream Center, Brazoria County WIC Office, Community Health Network, Brazosport Cares, Work Force Solutions, River of Hope, Communities in Schools, The Pregnancy Help Center, Brazoria County Community Resource Coordination Group, Brazoria County Health Department, Lone Star Legal Aid, The Gulf Coast Center, ADAPT Programs, Texas Family Solutions, Psychology works, Youth and Family Counseling Services, Bay Area Council On Drugs & Alcohol, The Salvation Army, Intentional Actions ABA, The Purple Penguins Baseball team, Brazoria County Association for Children's Habilitation, TX Therapies LLC, and Brazoria county Alliance for Children.
The BISD Special Services Department plans to partner with other local school districts to host another community resource fair on March 17, 2026, at Clute Intermediate School from 5:30 to 6:30 PM, with the goal of expanding participation among community agencies and connecting with additional families in our area.
The Family Connections Resource Night reflects the mission of Brazosport ISD’s Department of Special Services, which is “to provide collaborative services in an environment that embraces all learners to reach their full potential.” The event also supports the whole child and strengthens community connections by increasing awareness of available resources.
