After 12 years of dedicated service to Brazosport ISD, Board of Trustees Vice President Scott Schwertner is stepping down from the Board of Trustees as he and his family move out of the area.
Schwertner was elected to the Board in 2014 and has faithfully served the students, staff and community throughout his tenure. During the July 20 Board meeting, Superintendent Danny Massey and the Board of Trustees recognized and celebrated his years of service and the lasting impact he has made on Brazosport ISD.
"When Mr. Schwertner joined the Board in 2014, Brazosport ISD faced significant challenges," Massey said. "The district was struggling academically, many of our facilities were aging, and we were navigating difficult financial circumstances. Today, Brazosport ISD is recognized for excellence, with campuses and programs earning state and national recognition."
During Schwertner's time on the Board, Brazosport ISD has maintained balanced budgets while investing in competitive employee compensation, strengthened school safety, opened new state of the art schools, athletic field houses and Career and Technical Education Centers, and expanded college and career pathways that provide exceptional opportunities for students.
While those accomplishments reflect the work of many dedicated employees, trustees and community members, Massey said Schwertner's leadership, innovative thinking and unwavering commitment to educational excellence helped guide the district through a transformational period. He noted that Brazosport ISD is unquestionably a stronger district today than it was 12 years ago.
"There is a saying, 'Leave it better than you found it,'" Massey said. "Mr. Schwertner has certainly done just that."
Massey thanked Schwertner for his years of dedicated service on behalf of the Board of Trustees, employees, students and the Brazosport ISD community."
