Altagracia Delgado, BISD’s Director of Language Acquisition, was selected to present It’s Not Just About the Test: Using TELPAS Data to Help Students with Instruction this past summer at the Effective Border Schools and Title III Symposium State Conference in Austin. Delgado’s presentation included insightful information on how schools and districts should use the TELPAS data to make instructional recommendations for English language learners while implementing language structures and scaffolds that will help students attain the English language.

Katie Ward & Lindsey Blackstock
BISD’s Elementary Special Services Coordinator Katie Ward and Digital Learning Coordinator Lindsey Blackstock teamed up this summer when they were chosen to present at the Region IV Service Center’s Access to the General Curriculum Institute 2017. In the presentation Technology Adaptations for Struggling Learners, they shared their expertise in how to identify specific areas that a student may be struggling in, and then how to use technology adaptations to give that student the appropriate tools to lead to a positive and successful learning experience. The goal of using targeted adaptations is to more effectively include students into the general education classroom.

Clute Intermediate’s Digital Learning Coach April Whitehead was selected to present at the annual Texas Google Summit held in Klein ISD. The event is organized by the non-profit Techs4Tex group, which focuses on educational technology implementation, and provides quality learning opportunities for Google Apps for Education users and other modern classroom tools. Sharing her digital skills at the summit, Whitehead's two sessions included Escape the Classroom with GSuite and OnShape for Chromebooks.

Kristen Demland, April Whitehead and Emily Turner
BISD’s K-6 Digital Learning Coordinator Kristen Demland along with BISD Digital Learning Coaches April Whitehead and Emily Turner were each selected to present three different sessions at the annual Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) Tots and Technology Conference. The  two-day learning event offered hands-on workshops and sessions especially designed to effectively integrate technology into the Pre K-5 classroom. April Whitehead’s three presentation selected for the conference were: Make It Pretty, Automate Your Classroom, and Digital Escape Rooms; Emily Turner shared: Vocabulary CPR, Gamify your Lessons Using Gameboards, and Innovative, Collaborative, and Responsive Classrooms; and Kristen Demland’s presentations included: Tech Tools for Struggling Learners, Elementary Students Need Google Classroom, Too, and Chromebook SOS.

Michelle Griffith
BISD’s Coordinator of Curriculum and Instruction Michelle Griffith was chosen to present multiple sessions at the 2017 International Society for Technology Annual Conference and Exposition held in San Antonio this past summer. Griffith shared her insight and experience on how educators can implement the maker movement within their classroom and school without the high tech tools of 3D printers, power tools, and robotic kits while providing students with the same learning opportunities through low-tech and even no-tech makerspaces. While at the conference, Griffith was also tapped to contribute to the Future Ready Libraries and Schools focus group.

We are proud of these staff members for excelling in the classroom and for sharing their knowledge with other educators.
