The Brazosport ISD Board of Trustees has officially approved the 2026–2027 instructional calendar during its April board meeting. Calendar A, recommended by district administration and supported by various district and campus committees, was adopted unanimously.
The approved calendar provides students, staff, and families with over a year’s notice and includes several key features prioritized by the BISD Calendar Committee. These include a student start date of Wednesday, August 12, 2026, and a school year that concludes before Memorial Day weekend. The calendar also includes efforts to align student holidays with Fridays when possible and to ensure a consistent number of instructional days across semesters—81 days in the fall and 87 in the spring.
Development of the calendar involved input from district leaders, principals, and representatives from all grade levels and geographic areas of the district. Two drafts—Calendar A and Calendar B—were reviewed and voted on by the Calendar Committee, the District Education Improvement Committee (DEIC), and campus-based Educational Improvement Committees (CEICs). Calendar A was favored by 71.4% of Calendar Committee members, 57.1% of DEIC members, and 80% of CEIC representatives.
While Calendar B included a February break and extended the school year through Memorial Day weekend, stakeholders expressed concerns about instructional disruption in February and the impact of a later end date. Calendar A maintains the current structure with a consistent and familiar schedule similar to the 2025–2026 calendar.
District leaders noted they will continue to monitor state legislation—specifically HB 1209 and SB 2928—that could impact school calendar requirements in the future.
