BISD Celebrates Health and Community at the Third Annual 5K Fun Run and Wellness Fair
On Saturday, September 28, 2024, Brazosport ISD Wellness held its third annual 5K Fun Run and Wellness Fair, which started and ended at the Brazoswood CTE Center. The day brought together students, families, and community members for a lively celebration of health, wellness, and togetherness. With more than 534 registrants, it was a record setting year. The occasion continued its mission to inspire active lifestyles while connecting attendees to valuable health resources through its wellness fair.
The day kicked off with upbeat tunes courtesy of Man and Bride DJ, followed by an energizing warm-up led by Merie Abercrombie, setting a positive tone for the event. BISD Superintendent Danny Massey and Director of Benefits and Wellness, Rachel Arthur welcomed the crowd, followed by the pledges, which were led by Brazoswood student FFA officers. A heartfelt prayer was offered by Ron Redden, after which the runners took their places.
With a burst of confetti by Superintendent Danny Massey and Allyson Waybright with Next Level Medical, the Kid’s Fun Run began, followed immediately by the Family 5K. The 5K runners were equipped with official bibs with timing chips to ensure accurate race results. The race route was lined with more than 18 student groups from across BISD campuses, cheering and encouraging each participant as they completed the 3.2 miles. As each participant crossed the finish line, they made their way to the Wellness Fair inside the CTE Center, where more than 25 local health and wellness partners shared their expertise, resources, and programs. These partners further supported the event by contributing door prizes such as gift cards, free sessions, workout equipment and more.
The Buc Café was also open, providing refreshments for participants and spectators alike. The event aimed to connect the BISD family with valuable community resources while promoting the importance of maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle.
Campus Champ:
This year, two campuses were recognized for highest participation; Rasco Middle School and Brazoswood High School, both leaving with an impressive trophy to display for this year.
This annual event would not be possible without the generous support of our 2024 sponsors: Next Level Urgent Care, Pearland Pediatric Dentistry, Community Health Network, Concentra Urgent Care, Vantage Fit, UTMB Health, and Danny & Debbie Massey. Their contributions helped make the event a success and ensured that the BISD community continues to prioritize health and wellness.
As we reflect on another successful year, we extend our deepest thanks to everyone who attended, volunteered, and supported this year’s 5K Fun Run and Wellness Fair. A very special thank you to the BISD Human Resources team for their efforts. Together, we are building a healthier, stronger community. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
