Brazosport ISD students pursuing careers in the skilled trades took an important step toward their futures during the recent Brazoria County Petrochemical Council (BCPC) Career Signing Day, earning job offers with local industry partners.
This year’s event, held at the Dow Academic Center, brought together 252 student applicants from across Brazoria and Matagorda counties. While industry-wide hiring numbers were lower than in previous years, 41 students were selected for employment opportunities following a competitive interview process.
Of those selected, 13 Brazosport ISD students from Brazoswood High School and Brazosport High School secured positions, demonstrating the strength of the district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
Students participated in interviews with approximately 30 companies after selecting up to three potential employers. Even for those not selected, the experience provided valuable real-world exposure and professional skill development.
“Opportunities like Signing Day highlight how the skills students are learning in our classrooms translate directly into the workforce,” said Bridgette Percle, Curriculum and CTE Executive Director. “We are proud of our students for representing Brazosport ISD so well and for taking meaningful steps toward high-demand, high-wage careers.”
According to event organizers, careers in construction and manufacturing continue to offer strong earning potential in the region, with average wages in construction exceeding $82,000 annually in Brazoria County. These careers play a critical role in supporting industries that impact everyday life, including energy, healthcare products, infrastructure, and manufacturing.
The BCPC Signing Day program also emphasizes the importance of work readiness, professionalism, and technical skill. Students who participated gained firsthand experience navigating the hiring process while connecting with industry leaders.
Brazosport ISD continues to prioritize hands-on learning experiences through its CTE programs, preparing students to graduate future-ready, whether they choose to enter the workforce, pursue higher education, or both.
