This is the image for the news article titled BISD Teachers Earn Over $1.2 Million in TIA BonusesBrazosport Independent School District teachers received a combined total of over $1.2 million in their August paychecks from the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) program.

The Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) was established by the Texas Legislature to provide a pathway for top teachers to earn significant bonuses, with the ultimate goal of attracting and retaining highly effective educators, particularly in traditionally hard-to-staff schools. The funding for TIA comes from the state and 30% of eligible teachers are awarded designations and payments. Brazosport ISD’s top 30% of designation earners totaled 133 teachers, with 62 teachers earning a Recognized designation and awarded an additional $3,500-$6,500, 48 teachers earning an Exemplary designation and awarded an additional $7,000-$12,600, and 23 teachers earning the top level, Masters designation and being awarded $14,500-$22,800.

In the spring of 2022, BISD applied for a TIA local designation system and successfully completed its first data collection in the 2022-2023 school year. After proposing 133 teachers for designation and passing a rigorous data validation process, the district now looks forward to finalizing the 2023-2024 data for submission in October. Approval of designations is anticipated in Spring 2025, with payouts to eligible teachers in Summer 2026. Brazosport ISD is the only school district in Brazoria County whose teachers earned additional TIA compensation and one of only 306 of the 1,200 school districts in Texas.

Superintendent Danny Massey expressed his gratitude for the district’s achievements, stating, “The success of our Teacher Incentive Allotment program is a testament to the dedication and excellence of our educators. We are committed to recognizing and rewarding our teachers for their hard work, and these TIA allotments are just one way we can show our appreciation for the incredible impact they have on our students and community.”

As the new school year begins, BISD has launched a new TIA data collection cycle. Data will be gathered throughout the current school year.  BISD remains committed to expanding the TIA program, with plans to add more subjects as allowable growth measures are determined.

All BISD teachers are eligible for the recognized award level through National Board Certification, while specific courses and teaching roles are eligible for additional stipends in Phase 2 of TIA. The district continues to capture teacher and student data to support future TIA designations, ensuring that its educators are recognized and rewarded for their exceptional contributions.
