Freeport Intermediate School band students delivered an outstanding performance this past weekend at the Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) Region 13 Junior High Band tryouts in Stafford. A total of 50 Freeport Intermediate students auditioned against junior high musicians from schools across the region. Of those, 38 students earned region band chairs, including six first-chair placements, the highest honor awarded at the tryouts. Additionally, two students were named alternates, bringing the total number of Freeport Intermediate students recognized to 40 out of 50 participants.
“These results reflect the hard work, commitment, and talent of our students,” said Dustin Hernandez, FIS Head Band Director and Fine Arts Department Chair. “Our students worked extremely hard, and all who auditioned deserved to be celebrated. We are grateful to the families, staff, and community members who continually support and encourage our band students as they strive for excellence—not only in music, but in their own lives.”
Students who earned region chairs stood out among a large and highly competitive pool of junior high musicians. Their successful auditions secured them a place in the ATSSB Region 13 All-Region Junior High Band, where they will rehearse and perform in a culminating concert alongside top students from across the region. This remarkable achievement highlights both the talent of the students and the quality of BISD’s fine arts programs.
