As part of the meeting’s opening, the band’s performance highlighted the exceptional talent of the district’s student musicians, a recognition earned through years of award-winning excellence.

Each year, performing groups are nominated by SBOE District Members, with the selected groups opening the board’s meeting. The Brazoswood PM Jazz Band has earned numerous accolades over the years and is recognized statewide as one of the premier high school jazz bands in Texas. Their performance on January 31 was a testament to their dedication and the quality of music education provided by Brazosport ISD.

The Texas State Board of Education is composed of 15 elected members, with each representing approximately 1.8 million Texans. Brazosport ISD is represented by District 7 member Julie Pickren of Pearland. The board meets at least quarterly and is responsible for setting policies and standards for public schools across the state.

This opportunity not only spotlighted the incredible musicianship of the Brazoswood PM Jazz Band but also brought recognition to Brazosport ISD’s continued commitment to providing high-quality arts education.
