Brazosport Independent School District proudly joins school districts across Texas in celebrating School Board Recognition Month each January, honoring the dedicated service of the district’s locally elected Board of Trustees. This year’s statewide theme, “Our Future Is Public,” emphasizes the vital role public schools and school boards play in shaping strong communities and preparing students for the future.
These amazing individuals are elected community members who volunteer their time and service, receiving no compensation for their work. Together, they dedicate countless hours to setting district goals, adopting policies, overseeing the budget, and ensuring accountability —all in support of student success and the district’s mission to graduate each student to be future ready.
Meet the BISD Board of Trustees!
Mason P. Howard — Board President
Mason has served on the board since 2011, bringing deep roots and lifelong commitment to BISD. A graduate of Brazosport ISD and a local business owner, Mason’s leadership is grounded in family, community pride, and a passion for enhancing educational opportunities for all students.
Scott Schwertner — Board Vice President
A proud BISD product and Texas A&M graduate, Scott is serving his third term on the board. His leadership extends beyond governance, actively supporting BISD athletics, the arts, and community organizations. His belief that a strong school district strengthens the entire community guides his service.
Jerry Adkins — Board Secretary
Since 2013, Jerry has championed public education and advocacy, representing BISD on legislative networks and at national forums. With five decades in the Brazosport community, he supports efforts to provide students with outstanding educators and opportunities for success.
Joe Rinehart — Board Assistant Secretary
A lifelong resident and former BISD teacher and coach, Joe brings decades of educational experience and community service to the board. His firsthand perspective as an educator ensures that classroom needs remain central to board decisions.
Kenneth E. Schulte — Board Member
Ken’s 37-year career in education and coaching, followed by service as BISD’s Maintenance Director, gives him unique insight into both student achievement and operational excellence. His dedication to student success and safe, well-maintained schools is a valuable asset to the board.
Liz Cuellar — Board Member
A graduate and longtime volunteer within BISD, Liz has served on the board since 2018. Her decades of community engagement and support for students across campuses reflect her commitment to fostering growth, resilience, and achievement district-wide.
Chris Dunn — Board Member
As a board member, Chris contributes his perspective and energy to advancing BISD’s mission. His participation strengthens the district’s governance and commitment to students, families, and educators.
