Brazosport ISD is proud to recognize Becky Combs, counselor at Rasco Middle School and Robin Pate, counselor at Brazosport High School, as the 2026 Counselors of the Year. Representing a team of 34 outstanding school counselors across the district, these two professionals exemplify the dedication, compassion, and commitment it takes to support students at every level. Each year, the district honors one elementary and one secondary counselor whose work has made a meaningful and lasting impact on their campuses and throughout the community.
This year’s honorees, Mrs. Combs and Ms. Pate, are known for going above and beyond to create supportive environments where students feel valued, understood, and empowered to succeed. Through academic guidance, emotional support, and strong advocacy, both counselors play a vital role in helping students navigate challenges and reach their full potential.
Robin Pate, Secondary Counselor of the Year
Brazosport High School
Robin Pate, named Secondary Counselor of the Year, brings 21 years of experience in education, including nine years as a school counselor. A proud graduate of Brazosport ISD, she attended BISD schools from kindergarten through graduation and has dedicated her entire professional career to serving the district. Before becoming a counselor, she taught 3rd, 4th, and 7th grade, giving her a strong instructional foundation and a deep understanding of student development.
She shares that the most rewarding part of her role is building meaningful connections with students and their families, supporting them through both their successes and challenges. Ms. Pate hopes every student understands that while they may not be able to control every situation, they do have the power to shape their mindset and responses—an important life skill that extends far beyond the classroom.
Becky Combs, Elementary Counselor of the Year
Rasco Middle School
Becky Combs, Elementary Counselor of the Year, brings 35 years of experience in education, including 23 years as a school counselor—a role she describes as her true calling. She has served in three school districts and has spent the past seven years in Brazosport ISD, where she says it has been especially rewarding to be part of a district that truly prioritizes students and supports the work of its counselors.
Her career began as a Career and Technical Education teacher before transitioning into counseling, and she has worked with students from Pre-K through 12th grade. This broad experience has given her a unique perspective on the needs of students at every stage.
For Mrs. Combs, the heart of her work lies in the relationships she builds with students. She values being a trusted adult—someone students can rely on for honesty, encouragement, and support. She finds great joy in watching students grow in confidence and begin to believe in themselves. Her hope is that every student knows how capable they truly are and understands that they don’t need to have everything figured out; they simply need to keep showing up, doing their best, and making positive choices, knowing they are never alone.
Mrs. Combs and Ms. Pate’s tireless efforts, innovative approaches, and genuine care make them invaluable assets to their campuses and the Brazosport ISD community. Together, they help ensure that every student is supported, encouraged, and given the opportunity to thrive.
