Brazosport ISD is joining schools and organizations across the nation in recognizing Cybersecurity Awareness Month this October. Led nationally by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the campaign highlights the importance of strong online practices and encourages everyone to take proactive steps to protect their digital information.

Now in its 21st year, Cybersecurity Awareness Month focuses on empowering individuals, schools, businesses, and government entities to strengthen cyber resilience. The 2025 theme is “Building a Cyber Strong America,” emphasizing the role everyone plays in protecting personal and organizational information.

“Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility,” said Director of Technology David Mendoza. “As a district, we are committed to protecting sensitive information and equipping our students and staff with the tools they need to stay safe online—at school, at work, and at home.”

Chief Operations and Technology Officer Monty Burger added, “Technology touches nearly every part of teaching and learning today. Protecting our systems is about more than security—it’s about ensuring uninterrupted learning, safeguarding our community’s trust, and preparing students to be responsible digital citizens.”

Everyone in Brazosport ISD can take simple actions to improve cybersecurity.

How the community can help:

  1. Create strong, unique passwords for all accounts.
  2. Turn on multi-factor authentication (MFA) wherever possible.
  3. Think before you click—be cautious with links and attachments.
  4. Keep devices and software up to date.
  5. Back up important files regularly.

Cybersecurity is not a one-time effort but an ongoing commitment. By taking these steps, BISD students, staff, and families contribute to a safer digital environment and support the mission of “Building a Cyber Strong America.”
