Julie Evans, longtime educator and principal of Bess Brannen Elementary, has decided to retire at the conclusion of the 2025–2026 school year. After more than 40 years of service, all of it within Brazosport ISD helped shape her as both a student and an educator, she leaves behind a legacy of leadership, connection, and lasting impact on generations of students and staff.
A true product of Brazosport ISD, Evans attended Beutel Elementary, Lake Jackson Intermediate, and Brazoswood High School before returning to the district to begin her career in education. From her earliest days as a student to her final year as a principal, her life and career have been deeply rooted in BISD.
Evans began teaching in 1986 at Velasco Elementary and later at O.M. Roberts Elementary before moving into campus leadership. She served as an assistant principal at multiple campuses before being named principal of Bess Brannen Elementary in 2001. For the past 25 years, she has led the campus with a steady commitment to students, building a culture where relationships matter and every child is supported to succeed.
“Julie Evans has dedicated her life to Brazosport ISD, and her impact is woven into the fabric of this district,” said Superintendent Danny Massey. “She understands our community because she grew up here, and she has spent her career giving back to it. Her leadership has helped shape generations of students who are prepared for their future, and that legacy will continue well beyond her retirement.”
Throughout her career, Evans has remained grounded in a clear purpose—doing what is best for students. That focus is reflected in the culture she cultivated at Brannen Elementary, where staff work collaboratively to ensure every student receives a high-quality education and feels connected and supported.
In a handwritten letter submitted with her application in 1984, Evans shared her desire to return to the district that gave her so much: “I feel that I received an excellent education in the Brazosport school district and feel that I am now able to return and contribute to the process of educating our future citizens.” More than four decades later, that commitment has come to life in the countless students, families, and colleagues she has influenced.
Beyond her work on campus, Evans has been actively involved in organizations including Texas Elementary Principals Association, the Brazoria County Fair Association, the American Quarter Horse Association, and Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Lake Jackson. She is also known for her passion for horses, competing in barrel racing since the age of 12.
As she retires, Evans leaves a legacy that reflects the very heart of Brazosport ISD—strong relationships, a commitment to excellence, and a belief that every student deserves the opportunity to succeed. Her impact spans decades, touching the lives of those she taught, those she led, and those who will continue to benefit from the foundation she helped build.
Brazosport ISD extends its sincere appreciation to Julie Evans for a lifetime of service and dedication. Her journey, from BISD student to educator to campus leader, embodies the district’s mission to graduate each student to be future ready and serves as a powerful example of the lasting difference one educator can make over a lifetime.
