At the February Board of Trustees meeting, the district proudly recognized two outstanding educators as Mission First, Team Always Educators, honoring their commitment to student success, collaboration, and innovation.
The Mission First, Team Always Educator Award recognizes staff members who prioritize student success with purpose and integrity, foster collaboration and trust to strengthen their teams, and embrace innovation and lifelong learning to prepare students to be Future Ready.
Leslie Burton, Madge Griffith Elementary
Leslie Burton, a Special Education Teacher at Madge Griffith Elementary, is widely recognized on her campus for her dedication to students and her positive impact on the Griffith community. She demonstrates strong instructional practices, thoughtful planning, and a deep commitment to meeting the individual needs of every learner. Through meaningful collaboration with general education teachers and families, she has strengthened student support systems and enhanced outcomes for students. Mrs. Burton truly embodies what it means to be a Griffith Eagle — showing up, standing strong, and making a difference each day.
Chris Hunter, Brazoswood High School
Chris Hunter, a Special Education Teacher at Brazoswood High School, exemplifies the “Mission First, Team Always” spirit through his unwavering commitment to students and colleagues. Known for his dependability and positive attitude, he consistently goes above and beyond — whether supporting students, assisting with ARDs and paperwork, or stepping in to help fellow teachers. He creates a classroom environment where students feel valued and supported while being challenged to reach high expectations. As a co-teacher, he strengthens instruction and elevates those around him, making a lasting impact on the Brazoswood community.
