Brazosport ISD has appointed Shauna Grantham to fill the District 6 vacancy created by the resignation of Scott Schwertner, who is moving from the Brazosport area.
Grantham brings experience as an educator, parent, volunteer and small business owner to the Board. Originally from West Virginia, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies and a Master of Arts in Elementary Education from West Virginia University. She began her career as a middle school language arts teacher in her home state before relocating to Clute in 2008. After becoming a Texas-certified educator, she continued teaching middle school language arts in Brazosport ISD for four years.
Over the years, Grantham and her family have lived in several locations, including Midland, Michigan, and Terneuzen, the Netherlands. At each stop, she remained involved in public schools through volunteer work. When her family returned to the area, they chose Lake Jackson as their home in large part because of the strong school district.
Shauna is a dedicated mother of two current BISD students and has been an active volunteer across the district. She has served on the Brazosport ISD Education Foundation Board and the School Health Advisory Council since 2023. She was also a BISD Community Ambassador in 2024 and was named Rasco Middle School Volunteer of the Year that same year. Her volunteer service has included the Rasco and Brannen PTOs, classroom reading and campus volunteer opportunities, and serving as the liaison for the Brazoria County Dream Center's KidFuel Pack Program. For the past three years, she has helped connect the program with local schools to help ensure students have access to essential weekend meals.
Grantham said she wanted to serve on the Board because she believes in the power of public education and the important role schools play in building a strong community. She sees public schools as a foundation for a thriving community and wants to help make BISD even stronger. “Above all else, my family and I believe in the power of public education. It is important to prepare all students for the future so that we can maintain a thriving community and society. As a parent and former educator, I want to help find solutions that work best for all students and teachers in the classroom of today. I realize running a successful school system is difficult and requires detailed analysis and discussion. I want to add my perspective to help BISD continue to innovate and be its best for this community.”
In her free time, she enjoys supporting her children in their academic, athletic and fine arts activities.
Grantham will take the oath of office at the September 21, 2026 BISD Board meeting. Brazosport ISD welcomes Grantham to the Board of Trustees and appreciates her willingness to serve our students, staff and community. We are grateful for the time, experience and perspective she brings to this important responsibility and look forward to the work ahead.
