A generous donation from the Lions Club is helping Brazosport ISD strengthen emergency preparedness and support the safety of students and staff at every campus.
Coordinated by BISD Lead Nurse Lara Nichols and Executive Chief of Safety and Security Ty Morrow, the donation provides one additional LifeVac device for each campus. The devices will be placed alongside automated external defibrillators (AEDs) near campus nurses’ offices for quick access during an emergency. These additions complement the LifeVac already assigned to each campus cafeteria manager.
LifeVac is a noninvasive device that uses suction to help remove an airway obstruction when standard choking rescue procedures have been unsuccessful. The device received authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in March 2026 as a second-line treatment for choking emergencies.
To support a confident and coordinated response, campus Crisis Team members are receiving training on the proper use of LifeVac devices. Staff complete the required training and earn a certificate of completion before using the devices, with additional support available from the district’s Safety and Security and Nursing teams.
