“It is a privilege to serve as President of the Texas School Coalition,” said Massey. “With inflation at record highs and the state not providing meaningful funding or raises for public schools employees in nearly six years, our schools face growing financial challenges. It is critical that we advocate for our educators and ensure that our students have the resources they need to succeed.”

Massey’s selection as President of the Texas School Coalition highlights his commitment to addressing the financial challenges posed by the state's current recapture system, commonly known as "Robin Hood." This system requires wealthier districts to share local tax revenues with the state, which often leads to funding shortfalls in districts like BISD. Massey has long been an advocate for reforming this system to promote greater equity and sustainability for all school districts.

For the past 10 years, Massey has served as the Superintendent of Schools for Brazosport ISD, dedicating himself to ensuring that students receive the highest quality education and support. With 36 years of experience in education, including 34 years with BISD, he has held a wide variety of roles, from special education teacher and athletic coach to Assistant Principal, Principal, Executive Director, and Assistant Superintendent.

Massey was named the 2020 Region 4 Superintendent of the Year and the 2019 Man of the Year by the Brazosport Area Chamber of Commerce. He is widely recognized for his leadership in education, having been honored as a National Leadership Fellow by the Positive Coaching Alliance in 2015 for his contributions to creating a positive, character-building environment in the district’s athletic programs. In 2016, he was selected as the Educator of the Year by the Brazosport LULAC Council for his work in improving educational opportunities for the Hispanic community.

Under his leadership, Brazosport ISD has received numerous accolades for educational excellence and community engagement. Outside of his work in education, Massey is deeply involved in the community, serving on the Brazosport Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and supporting causes like Vanessa’s Big Heart Foundation, which raises awareness for pediatric congenital heart disease.

As President of the Texas School Coalition, Massey will continue to work with school districts across the state to pursue legislative solutions to the school finance system, ensuring that public schools have the resources they need to provide an excellent education for all students.
