Brazosport ISD Recognizes May Mission First, Team Always Educators

The Mission First, Team Always Educator Award recognizes staff members who prioritize student success with purpose and integrity, foster collaboration and trust to strengthen their teams, and embrace innovation and lifelong learning to prepare students to be Future Ready. This month’s honorees were Monica Jones and Holly Spear.



Elementary Mission First, Team Always Educator: Monica Jones of Brannen Elementary
Monica Jones serves as a third grade math teacher at Brannen and exemplifies what it means to be a Mission First, Team Always, Future Ready educator. She consistently places student success at the center of every decision, creating a classroom where students feel supported, confident, and excited to learn. This year, Jones went above and beyond by taking on two additional math classes while a teammate was on maternity leave to help ensure students remained prepared for STAAR success.

Jones fosters strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues while creating engaging learning experiences that inspire pride and enthusiasm. Her classroom is currently filled with creative ocean animal projects that showcase student learning and excitement. Her commitment to innovation, collaboration, and student growth, along with her positive attitude and leadership, make her an invaluable part of the Brannen Elementary team.

Secondary Mission First, Team Always Educator: Holly Spear of Brazos Success Academy
Holly Spear, an English teacher at BSA, was also recognized for exemplifying the Mission First, Team Always spirit. After a midyear teacher retirement, Spear stepped in to take on an additional class with unwavering commitment, helping ensure students stayed on track for EOC success through intentional planning, tireless effort, and additional support for struggling learners.

Beyond academics, Spear builds meaningful relationships with students through consistency, respect, and genuine care. Colleagues shared that she helps students “find their voices and believe in their ideas.” She also fosters a positive campus culture where students and staff feel valued and supported. Her leadership, compassion, and dedication continue to leave a lasting impact on the Brazos Success Academy community.
