This is the image for the news article titled Become Reading Heroes for National Reading MonthBrazosport ISD is celebrating National Reading Month this March, a nationwide initiative that begins March 2 in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Established to inspire Americans of all ages to read every day, the month-long observance highlights the power of literacy to open doors, build confidence, and shape future success.

One meaningful way community members can take part is through the district’s Reading Heroes program. Reading Heroes volunteer just 20 minutes a week to read one-on-one with a BISD kindergarten or first-grade student, helping young learners strengthen their reading skills while building encouraging relationships.

Community members interested in becoming a Reading Hero can sign up using the district’s online form:

After registering, a district representative will follow up with next steps to begin this rewarding volunteer opportunity.

Those who would like more information before applying are encouraged to contact Dr. Robin Pelton at [email protected] or 979-730-7000 ext. 10126.

Through National Reading Month and the dedication of Reading Heroes, Brazosport ISD continues its commitment to helping every student build a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
