This is the image for the news article titled 2026 Road to the National Spelling Bee BeginsThe journey to the Scripps National Spelling Bee is underway for Brazosport ISD students as they prepare for the 2026 Zone 1 Brazoria County Regional Spelling Bee. BISD has proudly hosted the county-level competition for the past 14 years, continuing a long-standing tradition of celebrating academic excellence and student achievement.

This year’s event will take place on Tuesday, February 24, at 6:00 p.m. at the Lake Jackson Intermediate Forum. The competition is being coordinated by Bronwyn Rumsey and Kelli Montgomery, who are organizing this year’s spelling bee.

Top spellers from participating campuses will compete for the opportunity to advance to the Scripps Bee Brilliant: HCC Regional Showdown, scheduled to take place March 28, 2026. The winner of that regional competition will then move on to Washington, D.C., to represent the area at the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Brazosport ISD will be represented by students from 11 campuses: A.P. Beutel, Bess Brannen, Lanier Elementary, Polk, O. M. Roberts, Stephen F. Austin, T.W. Ogg, Rasco Middle, Clute Intermediate, Freeport Intermediate, and Lake Jackson Intermediate.

BISD congratulates all campus spelling bee winners and extends appreciation to the guest judges who will support the event. A full list of participants and campus sponsors is included below.
