Roberts Elementary SchoolOn February 8, 2019 Brazosport ISD administrators and representatives from VLK Architects broke ground at the site of the new Oran M.Roberts Elementary School, which will be located just behind the present school.

The new state-of-the-art facility will include safety and security features such as electronic door locks, entrance vestibule, security fencing, cameras, and more; and has been designed to meet students’ varying learning styles for years to come. It is scheduled to open in August 2020 and will serve over 750 students in grades pre-kindergarten through four.

The new building design promotes outdoor engagement with a centrally located media center and connected green space. A large multipurpose area functions as a cafeteria and gym and will further serve as a meeting space for large events. The design within each classroom allows for natural light as well as for areas dedicated to collaborative learning in classroom wings. Each wing includes 13 classrooms, a teacher planning area, and restrooms. Two elevators and a centrally located stairway provide access to the second floor of the school.

“We all should feel honored and blessed to be a part of a community that values education, educators, and youth,” said Mr. Danny Massey, Superintendent of Brazosport ISD.

Roberts Elementary officially opened its doors on March 27, 1961 as a kindergarten through fifth grade campus. Mrs. Evelyn Williams was the principal and the campus enrolled 262 students as they moved into their new building at 110 South Cedar Street in Lake Jackson. By the end of the 1962-63 school year the enrollment was 448 students and the facility had been remodeled to bring in walls, a library and more classrooms. The school has had a total of six principals to date: Evelyn Williams, Ludina Jasper, Pam Davis, Judy Thacker, Sarah Wright and now Jennifer Nabors. For the last 58 years, thousands of students have attended this great school and hundreds of dedicated teachers and staff have served them.

Brazosport ISD plans to open the last two of five new elementary campuses as part of the 2014 BISD Bond Program. Both new campuses are ahead of schedule, with Roberts Elementary School originally scheduled to open in August of 2021, and Brannen Elementary a year later.
